As part of 2020 Operation THUNDER initiated by the World Customs’ Organization against the trafficking of endangered species of wild fauna and flora (CITES Convention of 1973), the Airport Unit anti-trafficking (CAAT) attached to the Customs Subdivision of the AIBD seized on Sunday 04th October 2020, 34 kg of bigeye tuna swim bladders, 4.6 kg of big eye tuna rib fins and 16 sperm whale teeth.
Two individuals of foreign nationality leaving for Paris involved in this case were arrested and the Mbour prosecutor’s office seized.
In addition, 40.7 kg of shark fins were also seized and traffickers identified. These products are sold in the black market for tens of millions of CFA francs.
