Customs Units on the front-line ensure COVID-19 Special Operations.
These operations are to strengthen customs’ surveillance and control in response to the Covid19. In Fatick, they helped to dissuade candidates from crossing the border, and to seize 167 kg of Indian hemp.
Customs’ services keep on being watchful throughout different borders (land, sea, river and air). In the Fatick Customs’ Subdivision, COVID-19 special operations allowed to put people off crossing the border and any attempt to leave illegally, namely in the Toubacouta area and Saloum islands. Indeed, in these areas, smugglers often try to cross irregular passages by Jakarta or by horse-drawn vehicle.
For this week, the OPS-COVID19 operqtions registered the following results:
1. On Friday May 01st, 2020, around 01:00 am, the Toubacouta Maritime Brigade caught 107 kg of Indian hemp and the means of transport. The seizure was estimated at 7,600,000 CFA francs. The operation was carried out in the Diossong commune, Foundiougne department;
2. The Karang Customs Commercial Brigade seized 60 kg of Indian hemp early this week, in Paka Thiare, Nioro du Rip department.
As a whole, 167 kg of Indian hemp was seized for a total value of 11,200,000 CFA francs.
Customs’ special operations COVID-19 refer to three strategies:
• S1: “Stay at home” to restrict people’s movements into the national territory
• S2: “Yombal”
For a diligent and secure handling of goods to facilitate the domestic market supply;
• S3 “Punching”
refers to the fight against illicit trafficking and cross-border organized crime.
These above mentioned operations echoed with the national response against the coronavirus.
