Joal-Fadiouth (Mbour), Dec. 8 (APS) – Customs’ officers of the Joal-Fadiouth sea brigade seized 500 kg of hemp, an estimated market value of 30 million CFA francs, learned the APS.
During a press briefing, the head of brigade, Lieutenant Jean-Emile Samba Diatta, said that this important seizure was made during a routine patrol, on Thursday, around 08: pm, at the  » Red Bench  », an area located towards “Bird Island”.
According to him, customs officers had noticed a canoe and so they stopped it. After controlling it, they discovered 17 bales of Indian hemp. One person was arrested and handed over to justice.
« The Joal-Fadiouth brigade operate predominantly at sea where most drug seizure are made during patrols. This drug named Indian hemp is often seized sold on the market between 60 and 80 thousand CFA francs per kilogram, « said Diatta. At the same time, he added that five tons of sugar and one vehicle had been seized as well.
The customs officer urged people to be careful and to embody citizenship and patriotism by collaborating with defense and security forces, and then denouncing any suspicious activity.
« At Joal-Fadiouth, in a fishing area, people are a little reluctant to collaborate with us, they prefer to show solidarity between each other. In general, other people from other localities give us information, « he lamented.
